Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS)
Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS) is a coalition of citizens dedicated to strengthening the Swannanoa Valley community by engaging in activities that encourage participation and cooperation, and through joint efforts with other organizations that have compatible goals.
FANS was formed in 2011 and consists of 13 board members.
2012 Board officers are:
- Chair: Sophia Papadopoulos
- Vice-Chair: Valerie Taylor
- Secretary: Shaun Moore
- Treasurer: Susan Brasfield
In addition, Board members are: Cindy Davidson, Maureen Dillow, Carol Groben, Doug Lebbon, Sandy Drake, Robert Randolph and Melanie Wilder.
“One of our main goals is to find ways to bridge differences and bring the community together through events and common goals,” said Board Chair, Sophia Papadopoulos. “We want to build on, or continue with, activities that improve our community, like the annual Swannanoa Sweep-Community Cleanup, the Community Garden, and others. We want to listen to what our community wants and needs. To do that, we encourage involvement and feedback from our Valley neighbors.”
We invite you to look at “Our Projects” (on navigation bar above) to see some of the great work that’s being done by our citizens — work that strengthens our community by giving residents the opportunity to make connections with their neighbors and work together cooperatively. Community members have given us many great ideas for new activities, including an outdoor movie series, Swannanoa history and storytelling events, and a community potluck.
We’re working for a strong and vibrant Swannanoa by encouraging active involvement, fostering community spirit, and honoring our unique and natural heritage. And FANS invites YOU to join us in that mission.
